Welcome to South Beach Plastic & Aesthetic Surgery · Dr. Benjamin J. Cousins, M.D.
Dr. Benjamin J. Cousins brings an artist's eye and a surgeon's precision to every procedure — delivering natural, individualized results that exceed the highest standards of modern aesthetic care.
Over time and with weakening of the forehead muscles, the eyebrows may drop over the eyes and lose their aesthetic appeal. Sometimes transverse forehead wrinkles may be overly apparent and disturbing in their appearance. Neuromodulators like Botox and Dysport may be effective in helping reduce the appearance of these fine lines and wrinkles. Brow lift surgery helps to raise droopy lowered eyebrows and is done either with small incisions in the scalp or forehead.
Surgery: Performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient procedure. Generally takes 2–3 hours. Patients can expect some bruising and swelling for about 1–2 weeks; most return to work soon thereafter.
Chin augmentation or mentoplasty reshapes or enhances the size of the chin using an implant or by moving and reshaping bone. The procedure creates better balance between the chin and other facial features, improving overall facial harmony and proportion. Patients who feel their chin is recessed, weak, or out of proportion with their nose or forehead are excellent candidates.
Surgery: Performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient procedure. Generally takes 1–2 hours. Dr. Cousins will provide individualized recommendations during your consultation.
Earlobe repair surgery corrects torn, stretched, or damaged earlobes caused by heavy earrings, gauges, or traumatic injuries. Dr. Cousins surgically restores the natural appearance of the earlobe. The procedure is typically performed in the office under local anesthesia with minimal downtime. The earlobe can be re-pierced approximately 6–8 weeks after full healing.
Procedure: In-office under local anesthesia. Patients return to normal activities immediately.
Blepharoplasty improves the appearance of the upper lids, lower lids, or both. With age, eyelids stretch and the muscles supporting them weaken — resulting in excess skin collecting on the upper lids, fine wrinkles on the lower lids, and puffiness above and below the eyes. Eyelid surgery creates a refreshed, more youthful eye area and can also improve vision impaired by drooping upper lids.
Surgery: Performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation as an outpatient. Generally takes 1–2 hours. Bruising and swelling resolve within 1–2 weeks.
Also known as a rhytidectomy, a facelift reverses the signs of facial aging caused by gravity, sun-exposure, and time. As facial tissues sag, wrinkles and fat deposits become more pronounced and jowls form. Dr. Cousins uses specialized, modern minimally invasive techniques to lift the deeper structures of the face — adding volume and suspending tissues to counter gravity while avoiding the "windblown" or "pulled" appearance. Your facelift may include additional procedures such as a brow lift, blepharoplasty, neck lift, or dermal fillers.
Surgery: Performed under general anesthesia. Generally takes several hours as an outpatient. Patients can expect bruising and swelling for 1–2 weeks.
A neck lift addresses visible signs of aging in the jawline and neck, including jowls, excess fat under the chin, loose neck skin, and muscle banding that creates an abnormal contour. It is frequently performed in combination with a facelift for comprehensive facial rejuvenation. Results restore a defined, smooth, youthful neck contour.
Surgery: Performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient procedure. Generally takes 2–3 hours. Recovery typically involves 1–2 weeks of bruising and swelling.
Otoplasty improves the shape, position, or proportion of the ear. It can correct a structural defect present at birth, or treat misshapen ears caused by injury. Ear surgery creates a more natural shape while bringing balance and proportion to the ears and face. The procedure is suitable for both children and adults.
Surgery: Performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation as an outpatient. Generally takes 2–3 hours. A bandage around the head supports the new position. Most patients return to work within 5–7 days.
Aesthetic rhinoplasty improves the appearance of the nose to enhance facial balance and symmetry. Patients may be unhappy with a nose that has a widened appearance, large or bulbous tip, or a "hump" or "beak" appearance. Small incisions are made on the inside of the nose so they are hidden. Sutures and cartilage from the nasal septum are used to reshape and contour the nasal framework to achieve the optimal aesthetic result.
Surgery: Performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient, though patients sometimes stay overnight for observation. Generally takes 2–3 hours. Bruising and swelling resolve over 1–2 weeks.
Breast augmentation mammaplasty is one of the most common aesthetic procedures performed, with very high rates of patient satisfaction. By adding volume under the breast tissue with silicone or saline implants, the breasts appear enlarged, lifted, and more youthful. Dr. Cousins will customize your experience to achieve the maximum results — recommending the best incision location, implant type (saline, silicone, or "Gummy Bear" form-stable), and implant placement.
Implant Options: Saline implants (available for women 18+), silicone implants (available for women 22+), and the newest FDA-approved "Gummy Bear" form-stable silicone implants which feel most like natural breast tissue.
Surgery: Performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient. Generally takes 1–2 hours. Patients return to work within 1–2 weeks.
A breast lift raises and reshapes sagging breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, gravity, and aging can cause loss of breast shape and firmness. A mastopexy rejuvenates the figure with a more youthful breast profile and can be combined with breast augmentation or reduction for optimal results. Dr. Cousins customizes the incision pattern and technique to each patient's anatomy.
Surgery: Performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient. Generally takes 2–3 hours. Bruising and swelling resolve within 1–2 weeks.
Breast implant removal surgery is performed for a variety of reasons including capsular contracture, implant rupture, size change, or personal preference to return to a natural appearance. Dr. Cousins offers complete implant removal with or without capsulectomy (removal of scar tissue around the implant). A mastopexy (breast lift) may be recommended at the same time to restore breast shape after removal.
Surgery: Performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient. Generally takes 1–2 hours. Recovery involves 1–2 weeks of limited activity.
Breast implant replacement involves removing existing implants and placing new ones — to address complications such as capsular contracture or rupture, to upgrade to a newer implant type, to change size or profile, or simply to replace aging implants. Dr. Cousins will evaluate the current implant and pocket condition and recommend the best approach including any necessary pocket adjustments or capsule work to achieve the desired result.
Surgery: Performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient. Duration depends on complexity. Dr. Cousins will review all options during your consultation to develop the optimal replacement plan.
Breast reduction or reduction mammaplasty removes excess breast fat, glandular tissue, and skin to achieve a breast size more proportional to your body and to alleviate discomfort from overly large breasts. Symptoms such as neck pain, back pain, skin irritation, bra strap grooving, and difficulty exercising can all be addressed. Breast reduction consistently ranks among the highest-satisfaction plastic surgery procedures. Many cases are partially or fully covered by insurance.
Surgery: Performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient. Generally takes 2–4 hours. Most patients experience immediate relief from physical discomfort. Return to work within 2–4 weeks.
Breast revision surgery corrects or improves the results of a previous breast procedure. Reasons for revision include implant malposition, capsular contracture, implant rupture or deflation, asymmetry, size change, or general dissatisfaction with prior surgical outcomes. Dr. Cousins has extensive experience in complex breast revision cases and will work with each patient individually to determine the safest and most effective corrective approach.
Surgery: Performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient. Complexity and duration vary based on the extent of revision needed. A thorough consultation and examination are conducted prior to surgery.
Nipple and areolar surgery encompasses procedures to improve the size, shape, symmetry, or projection of the nipple-areolar complex. Specific procedures include areolar reduction (reducing the size of the areola), nipple reduction, inverted nipple correction, and areolar revision following prior breast surgery. Dr. Cousins customizes each procedure to achieve natural, proportionate results that complement the overall breast appearance.
Surgery: Typically performed as an outpatient under local or general anesthesia depending on complexity. Recovery generally involves 1–2 weeks of limited activity. Results are permanent.
Breast reconstruction restores the shape, appearance, symmetry, and size of the breast following mastectomy, lumpectomy, or other breast cancer treatments. Dr. Cousins performs both implant-based reconstruction using tissue expanders and implants, as well as complex flap-based reconstructive techniques. Reconstruction can be performed immediately at the time of mastectomy or delayed to a later date. Dr. Cousins works closely with the patient's oncology team throughout the process.
Surgery: Timing and technique are individualized based on the patient's cancer treatment plan, body type, and aesthetic goals. Compassionate, comprehensive care is provided at every stage of the reconstructive journey.
An abdominoplasty removes excess skin and fat from the abdomen and tightens the abdominal muscles (fascia) to create a flatter, more toned appearance. It is commonly performed after significant weight loss, multiple pregnancies, or when diet and exercise have not achieved the desired contour. The remaining skin is repositioned for a smoother, more defined result.
Surgery: Performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient. Generally takes 2–4 hours. Return to light work within 2–4 weeks; full recovery at 6–8 weeks.
A brachioplasty improves the contour and definition of the arms. With significant weight loss or the effects of gravity over time, the arms can develop a saggy, flabby appearance. An arm lift removes excess skin and fat between the underarm and the elbow, reshaping the arm to a more toned and proportionate appearance.
Surgery: Performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient. Generally takes 1–2 hours. Patients can return to work within 1–2 weeks.
A butt lift improves the appearance of the buttocks through liposuction, fat transfer (Brazilian Butt Lift), or excision of excess skin. Dr. Cousins also specializes in BBL correction surgery — correcting unsatisfactory outcomes from Brazilian Butt Lift procedures performed elsewhere. This includes revision for asymmetry, contour irregularities, fat necrosis, infection sequelae, or cosmetic dissatisfaction.
Surgery: Technique and recovery time vary based on the specific procedure. Dr. Cousins will discuss all options during your consultation to determine the best approach for your anatomy and aesthetic goals.
Liposuction is one of the most common plastic surgery procedures performed today. It targets diet-and-exercise-resistant fat deposits to create a slimmer, thinner, and more proportional contour. Small incisions are made in natural skin creases; vacuum-like cannulas suction out excess fat — often in combination with ultrasound or laser energy for enhanced results. Common treatment areas include the abdomen, flanks, back, arms, thighs, neck, and chest.
Surgery: Performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient. Generally takes 1–2 hours. Swelling and bruising resolve in 1–2 weeks; full results visible at 3–6 months.
A lipoma is a slow-growing, fatty lump that sits between the skin and the underlying muscle. Most lipomas can be safely removed in the office under local anesthesia with minimal blood loss. Patients stay awake for smaller lipomas and go home immediately after. For larger or more complex lipomas, sedation or general anesthesia may be required.
Surgery: Most removals are performed in-office under local anesthesia in 1–2 hours. Patients return to normal activities immediately or within a few days.
A Mommy Makeover is a customized combination of procedures designed to restore a woman's pre-pregnancy body. Pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding can significantly change the breasts and abdomen. Dr. Cousins typically combines some combination of breast augmentation, breast lift, tummy tuck, and liposuction — all tailored to the individual patient's needs and aesthetic goals — to achieve a complete, natural-looking transformation.
Surgery: Performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient or overnight procedure depending on extent. Dr. Cousins will discuss all planned procedures, expected recovery, and answer all questions during your consultation.
A thigh lift reshapes the thighs by reducing excess skin and fat, resulting in smoother contours of the inner and outer thighs. Following significant weight loss, aging, or pregnancy, skin on the thighs may become lax and loose. A thigh lift restores a more toned, contoured appearance and improves comfort during physical activity.
Surgery: Performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient. Generally takes 2–3 hours. Limited activity for 2–4 weeks; strenuous activity avoided for approximately 6 weeks.
Significant weight loss — whether through diet and exercise or bariatric surgery — is a tremendous achievement. However, the resulting loose, excess skin can be uncomfortable and affect quality of life. Post-weight loss body contouring surgery removes this excess skin and reshapes the body to match your new, slimmer figure. Procedures commonly performed include tummy tuck, arm lift, thigh lift, breast lift, and lower body lift — individually or in combination.
Surgery: Performed under general anesthesia. Multiple procedures may be staged for safety. Dr. Cousins will work with you to develop a comprehensive body contouring plan based on your goals and medical history.
Botox and Dysport are neuromodulators that temporarily relax facial muscles causing wrinkles from repeated movement. Most commonly used to treat forehead lines, frown lines (glabellar lines), and crow's feet. Results typically last 3–4 months. Botox and Dysport are also effective for treating neck bands, the masseter muscle (jaw slimming), lip lines, and hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).
Procedure: Performed in the office in approximately 15–30 minutes. No downtime. Results are visible within 5–7 days.
Juvederm and Restylane are hyaluronic acid dermal fillers used to add volume, smooth folds and lines, and restore a youthful appearance. They treat nasolabial folds, marionette lines, under-eye hollows, cheeks, jawline, and hands. Results are immediate and last 6–18 months depending on the product and area treated. Dr. Cousins customizes filler treatment to each patient's facial anatomy for natural-looking results.
Procedure: Performed in the office. Minor swelling and bruising resolve within a few days. Patients return to work immediately after treatment.
Lip augmentation with dermal fillers such as Restylane or Juvederm adds volume, definition, and shape to the lips. Dr. Cousins offers both subtle natural enhancement and more dramatic augmentation depending on the patient's goals. The procedure takes approximately 15–30 minutes in the office and results are immediate, lasting 6–12 months. Temporary swelling typically resolves within 3–5 days.
Procedure: In-office procedure. No downtime. Patients return to normal activities immediately.
Cheek and facial contouring with dermal fillers can sharpen the jawline, add definition to the cheeks, lift the midface, and improve overall facial balance — without surgery. Juvederm Voluma and Restylane Lyft are commonly used to restore age-related volume loss in the cheeks and provide structural support to the midface. Results can last 18–24 months.
Procedure: Performed in the office in 30–60 minutes. Results are immediate. Some temporary swelling and bruising may occur and resolve within a few days.
Hand rejuvenation restores lost volume to the back of the hands — reducing the visible appearance of tendons and veins that become more prominent with age. Dermal fillers or fat transfer are used to plump and smooth the hand's surface, dramatically restoring a more youthful appearance. Results are immediate and last 1–2 years.
Procedure: Performed in the office under local anesthesia. Patients can return to normal activities immediately after treatment.
Hyperhidrosis is characterized by sweating that exceeds the body's needs for temperature regulation. It most commonly affects the armpits, palms, and soles. Botox is an FDA-approved, highly effective treatment — temporarily blocking nerve signals that stimulate sweat glands. Results typically last 6–12 months per treatment cycle. This procedure can dramatically improve quality of life and self-confidence.
Procedure: Performed in the office in approximately 30 minutes. Multiple small injections are placed in the affected area. No downtime. Repeated every 6–12 months as needed.
Gynecomastia is the enlargement of breast tissue in males, affecting one or both breasts. It causes significant emotional discomfort and impairs self-confidence. Male breast reduction surgery removes excess fat and glandular tissue to restore a flatter, firmer, and more masculine chest contour. Liposuction alone may be used for fatty gynecomastia; surgical excision is added when firm glandular tissue is present.
Surgery: Performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient. Generally takes 1–2 hours. Return to work within 1–2 weeks. Strenuous activity avoided for 4–6 weeks.
Male liposuction targets stubborn, diet-resistant fat deposits to create a slimmer, more defined masculine contour. Common treatment areas include the abdomen, flanks ("love handles"), chest, back, neck, and chin. Small incisions are placed in natural skin creases and small cannulas suction out excess fat, often combined with ultrasound or laser energy for enhanced sculpting results.
Surgery: Performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient. Generally takes 1–2 hours. Swelling and bruising resolve in 1–2 weeks; full results visible at 3–6 months.
Botox, Dysport, and dermal fillers are increasingly sought by men for subtle, natural-looking facial rejuvenation. Botox and Dysport relax muscles causing forehead lines, crow's feet, and frown lines. Dermal fillers restore lost facial volume, sharpen the jawline, and improve overall harmony — all while maintaining masculine features. All treatments are quick, require no downtime, and are fully reversible.
Procedure: All injectable treatments are performed in the office. Dr. Cousins customizes every treatment to the male patient's individual facial anatomy and aesthetic goals. Results visible within 5–7 days for neuromodulators; immediately for fillers.
Hair loss affects millions of men and can significantly impact confidence and self-image. Dr. Cousins offers consultations for surgical hair restoration including Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) and Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE). These procedures transplant healthy hair follicles from donor areas to thinning or bald regions, resulting in natural, permanent hair growth. Results develop gradually over 6–12 months as transplanted follicles establish and grow.
Surgery: Performed under local anesthesia. The procedure is customized based on the extent of hair loss, donor hair availability, and the patient's aesthetic goals.
Cyst removal excises sebaceous cysts, epidermoid cysts, and other skin growths that are bothersome, infected, or cosmetically undesirable. Scar revision minimizes the appearance of scars from injuries, prior surgeries, or other causes — including hypertrophic scars and keloids. Dr. Cousins uses the most current surgical techniques to achieve the best possible aesthetic outcomes with minimal new scarring.
Surgery: Most procedures are performed in-office under local anesthesia. More complex revisions may require outpatient surgery. Most patients return to normal activities within a few days.
